Biography
Sylvie was raised in Larchmont, New York along with her eight brothers and sisters. Drawing was her favorite activity, and by the fifth grade she had decided to be an artist. In 1980, she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts with honors from Parsons School of Design in New York City. For the next six years, Sylvie worked for architects in New York and San Francisco. In 1985, Sylvie and her husband Don left the east coast for Berkeley, California. They settled in Walnut Creek six years later, where they have raised their three wonderful daughters. Sylvie has been very active in her community where she has designed and painted 21 murals. Fourteen of the murals encouraged student participation involving well over 500 students. Sylvie discovered plein air oil painting in the early ‘90s. She has studied with Pam Glover, Tim Horn, and Bryan Mark Taylor. Her passion for California landscape has inspired her most recent work. Painting commissions, community murals and private art lessons keep her life very full. Ms. Carr encourages prospective clients to inquire about any painting or drawing that may already be sold or otherwise, for special commissioned paintings. Most oils are plein air paintings and Sylvie would be happy to create commissioned paintings in custom sizes from the studies portrayed on this website. Please contact her at sylvie(at)sylviecarr.com
